ILOILO City – Because of bouncing checks, a woman from Dumangas, Iloilo was arrested.
Roselyn Catanyag, 43, of Barangay Calao, Dumangas was charged with three counts of violation of Batas Pambansa 22.
Officers served her a warrant of arrest in her house at 9 a.m. on Monday, a police report showed.
Catanyag was detained at the Dumangas police station custodial facility.
Municipal Circuit Trial Court Judge Gonzalo Espa issued the warrant.
Batas Pambansa 22 – the “Act penalizing the making or drawing and issuance of a check without sufficient funds or credit and for other purposes” – was approved on April 3, 1979.
Anyone guilty of the crime “shall be punished by imprisonment of not less than 30 days but not more than one year, or a fine of not less than but not more than double the amount of the check, [and] shall in no case exceed P200,000,” or both, at the court’s discretion./PN
