BACOLOD City – The Labor department has lifted the work stoppage order it issued against the Ayala Land, Inc. Capitol Central Mall project in Barangay 8.
Regional Director Johnson Cañete signed the order to lift the stoppage order on Wednesday and this was immediately served to the project contractor and subcontractor, Negros Occidental field office head Mary Agnes Capigon said.
The Department of Labor and Employment issued the work stoppage order after two workers died in an accident at the construction site on Nov. 11.
The department’s Negros Occidental field office conducted a hearing/investigation into the incident on Tuesday, said Capigon.
Representatives from Makati Development Corp. (contractor) and Kuntel Construction and Development (subcontractor) attended, she said.
Capigon said she then submitted her findings and recommendations to Cañete.
According to Capigon, the new order included recommendations on safety.
All 21 workers assigned in the area where the accident occurred must undertake a one-day orientation on work safety before they can return to their assignments, she said.
The company will also give compensation to the families of the two workers who died, said the Labor department official.
Dodie Boy Mallorca and Heracleo Abraham perished when the scaffolding they were on collapsed. They forgot to hook their whole-body harness, causing their fatal fall, investigators said./PN
