MANILA – Global Cebu Football Club recovered from a first half deficit to force Ilocos United Football Club to a 3-3 draw in the 2017 Philippines Football League the other day in Ilocos Sur.
Darryl Roberts converted two goals in the second half to negate the advantage of Ilocos United and fortified their hold of the fourth place in the standings with 44 points on 12 wins, eight draws and six losses.
Global Cebu gained the early lead with Rufino Sanchez’s conversion from a corner by Yu Hoshide. Ilocos United, however, countered with back-to-back hits from Arthur Kouassi and Charlie Beaton for a 2-1 halftime lead.
The Global Cebu quickly equalized early in the second half with Roberts’ hit from the right wing. Ilocos regained the lead at 3-2 on a close-range hit by Kennedy Uzoka before Roberts drained the game-tying goal at the 76th minute.
Global Cebu managed to force the deadlock despite the absence of veterans Patrick Deyto, Paul Mulders, Misagh Bahadoran, Dennis Villanueva, Hikaru Minegishi and Paolo Salenga due to Philippine Azkals duty.
Meanwhile, Ceres-Negros Football Club failed to maintain its early lead and settle to a 2-2 draw with JP Voltes Football Club-Marikina at the Binan Football Stadium in Binan, Laguna.
After missing their early hits, Ceres-Negros finally entered the scoring column in the 27th as Fernando Rodriguez drained a pass by Patrick Reichelt. JP Voltes quickly retaliated with an equalizer courtesy of Kou Ichi Belgira.
Ceres-Negros went ahead just before the half after Bienvenido Maranon redirected a long range free kick from Omid Nazari. In the second half, JP Voltes answered with a game-tying goal from Ali Mahmoud.
With the outcome, the Negros Occidental-based football team remained at second place with 52 points on 16 wins, four draws and four defeats, while JP Voltes is at sixth with 29 points./PN
