ILOILO City – Atty. Mary Joan Montaño, head of the city government’s Internal Audit Service (IAS) Office, broke into the Top 10 of the first Department of Finance – Civil Service Commission (DOF-CSC) – Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) Competency in Local Treasury Examination (BCLTE) held in Manila.

“This is a clear manifestation that Iloilo City is a producer of excellent professionals,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

For her feat, Montaño received a Mayor’s Citation.

There were 1,500 examinees but only 400 passed.

The examinees were treasurers and assistant treasurers of local government units (LGUs).

Before Montaño’s appointment as IAS chief, she served as the city’s assistant treasurer.

“When I took the exam, I had no idea of its coverage. I didn’t expect to be included in Top 10,” said Montaño.

The IAS chief had been working in the city government for 13 years.

Montaño graduated Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the University of San Agustin in 1997.

She finished her Bachelor of Laws in 2005. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
