TAMASAK Kickers and So-ol Football Club of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo kicked off their respective campaigns in the Mariano C. Araneta Sr. Memorial Invitational Football Cup with victories on Saturday at the football field in the town.
Tamasak Kickers leaned on the 10th minute goal of Palarong Pambansa 2017 elementary level Best Midfielder Francis Botavara to score 1-0 over Barotac Nuevo Selection.
Barotac Nuevo Selection had multiple chances to force a deadlock but Tamasak Kickers tightened the defense to escape with the victory.
In the second game, So-ol FC pounced on the visiting Lambunao FC’s miscues to come up with a 3-0 win. Goal scorers for So-ol were Javey Dosano and Philip Bela-ong.
After missing early attempts, So-ol drew first blood in the 33rd minute with a Dosano hit.
Dosano made another goal early in the second half before Bela-ong sealed the win with a close-range shot.
Organized by Barotac Nuevo Football Club, the tournament – tipped to last until Dec. 22 – has drawn eight teams for the Under-13 category and six teams in the Open category.
Other U-13 participants were Central Philippine University (CPU), PAREF-Westbridge and St. Joseph School – Iloilo.
Open category contenders include Western Institute of Technology, CPU, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Santa Barbara, Barotac Nuevo National Comprehensive High School, and Iloilo State College of Fisheries – Barotac Nuevo./PN
