BACOLOD City – There will be a regional disaster summit today in Barangay Guintuban, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
The summit is aimed at preparing residents living around Mount Kanalon in the event that a worst-case scenario happens.
The Regional Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Coordinating Council and the Office of the Civil Defense in Western Visayas will host the summit, said Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian.
The summit will orient local government units (LGUs) on how to properly coordinate with concerned agencies in case volcanic activity worsens.
Caelian said they will also review the coordination and preparedness plans of LGUs.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs has recorded 9 volcanic quakes in Mount Kanlaon yesterday from 10 volcanic quakes on Sunday.
Despite this, Mount Kanlaon is still on Alert Level 2, or the moderate level or unrest, leaving the no entry policy within the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone in place.
Phivolcs has been monitoring the activities of the volcano since its alert level was raised last week./PN
