ILOILO City – Acknowledging the clamor of market vendors and customers, Mayor Jose Espinosa III said the rehabilitation of the Iloilo Terminal Market, popularly known as “Super”, is in the works.
“It will be repaired. The terminal market is a topsy-turvy area that needs attention,” he said.
Espinosa, however, said the city government has yet to find funds for the engineering design of the terminal market.
The mayor also saw the need to put in order the flow of traffic around the terminal market. He observed the congestion of vehicles especially during rush hours.
Some provincial public utility jeepneys were picking up passengers at the terminal market, said Espinosa.
“We will address the traffic congestion there and provide parking spaces for vehicles. Specifically, we will clear Rizal Street so that the vendors will have an organized space to sell their products. Customers, too, should have convenience when buying the things they need,” he added.
Meanwhile, Espinosa instructed city veterinarian Dr. Tomas Forteza to make sure that meat from the city’s slaughterhouse were fresh and clean.
He also said the city government has started identifying the areas where vendors could sell fruits for the holidays.
“For the Christmas season, we will practice maximum tolerance on the sidewalk vendors. We will just organize the selling areas just like before. They must be presentable,” he said. (Iloilo City PIO)/PN
