BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod requested the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to augment the fund of its Negros Occidental office so that indigent patients in the province can still avail themselves of medical assistance.
This was after PCSO-Negros Occidental’s fund depleted last month.
Resolution proponent Councilor Caesar Distrito said it is the PCSO’s mission to generate funds for health and charity services.
Jose Manuel Villagracia, branch manager of PCSO-Negros Occidental, said their medical assistance services were suspended due to insufficiency of available budget.
The provincial field office’s P179-million budget this year is lower compared to last year’s P202-million budget, according to Villagracia.
Villagracia has already requested an additional P30.8 million from PCSO’s central office but the latter only approved a P6-million extra budget.
Villagracia said the amount is not enough to cater to the needs of indigent patients in the province.
He added that most of the indigent patients who request medical assistance from the PCSO are those who need to undergo hemodialysis./PN
