MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts cruised to a 25-17, 25-18 win over Angelicum Learning Center in the Rebisco Volleyball League at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
But the Friday night achievement was not enough for Tay Tung to move on to the semifinals.
Thunderbolts finished its Pool B assignments on third place with a 3-2 win-loss record behind De La Salle-Lipa and Holy Rosary College.
“It was unfortunate that we fell short … but I can say that the girls have made the school and Western Visayas proud,” said Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice chairman for sports.
Behind veterans Shane Carmona and Marianne Sotomil, Tay Tung started strong in both sets for double-digit leads.
Angelicum managed to cut the deficit to single digits but their errors allowed Thunderbolts to sweep the match.
De La Salle-Lipa took the top spot in Pool B following a straight-set victory over Holy Rosary College. Mirgie Bautista, Janel Maraguinot and Alleiah Malaluan anchored the winning team’s offense.
Defending champion Nazareth School of National University clinched the No. 1 seat in Pool A after beating Hope Christian High School in straight sets 25-15, 25-23.
Holy Family Academy, meanwhile, finally barged into the win-column with a 25-20, 25-16 victory over Leyte National High School, while University of San Jose-Recoletos defeated Far Eastern University./PN
