BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) once again requested the Management Information Technology Center Services (MITCS) to install wireless internet connection in designated public places and government offices in the city.
Last week, the SP approved the resolution reiterating the implementation of City Ordinance No. 09-16-788, which aims to provide “accessible and secured” WiFi connection in the city.
The ordinance – authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito – was approved Oct. 14 last year.
In July this year, the SP also requested the MITCS to implement the ordinance through the Office of the City Mayor.
The city government has already allocated P3.5 million for the installation of the WiFi.
Distrito said most Bacolodnons are reliant on the internet, especially when “communicating, studying, and updating themselves with the local, national and international happenings.”
The councilor added that providing internet access is considered as one of the priority programs of the city government./PN
