KALIBO, Aklan – Residents of flood-prone areas in this capital town and Banga, Aklan will benefit from the P114-million river control wall projects of the Aklan District Engineering Office.
The high-impact flood control systems worth P82.649 million in Barangay Bakhaw, Kalibo and P31.716 million in Barangay Linabuan Sur, Banga were already completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.
The completion of the revetment projects aims to protect the properties and lives of over 6,500 residents who live along the Aklan River bank.
The riverbanks get flooded especially during the rainy season or when there’s heavy downpour.
Provincial District Engineer Noel Fuentebella said the wall projects are measures to alleviate river overflowing and erosions of villages and reduce the magnitude of flood hazards in the two towns, which are considered as catch basins of the province.
The project involves the construction of a 480.97 lineal metered wall resting on steel sheet files in Kalibo and a 253.8 lineal metered wall with spur dikes, cut off walls and crest protection in Banga.
Meanwhile, the construction of the P36-million two-storey regional evacuation center in Sitio Bukid, Barangay Tigayon in this town is ongoing. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
