KALIBO, Aklan – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) assigned a four-man patrol boat to help the local Bantay Dagat units in guarding Aklan’s coasts.
BFAR said the patrol boat will strengthen the protection of the province’s municipal waters from illegal fishers.
The crew who were trained to man the boat will also enforce fishery laws in the province.
On Nov. 13, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed Resolution No. 2017-546 to thank BFAR for the patrol boat.
The boat will be stationed in Batan, Aklan, which is often visited by poachers.
The boat’s passenger capacity is 6, excluding the crew. It has a built-in Global Positioning System compass and is powered by a 115-HP engine.
According to Board member Emmanuel Soviet dela Cruz, chairman of the SP committee on agriculture, the patrol boat will “enhance the capability of seaborne patrol operations and the monitoring and apprehension of illegal fishers.” (PIA/PN)
