MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers unleashed its offensive firepower to score a 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 win over Cocolife Asset Managers in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the San Juan Arena.
Import Lindsay Stalzer waxed hot with 16 points on 11 attacks, three blocks and two aces on Thursday night.
With a 7-1 win-loss slate, the Blaze Spikers gained a share of the top spot with defending champions Foton Tornadoes.
After easily dominating the first two sets, the Blaze Spikers encountered trouble in the third frame with the Asset Managers holding to a 20-18 lead. Hits from Hillary Hurley and Frances Molina allowed the Blaze Spikers to surge to a 21-20 edge.
After the Asset Managers tied the count at 21-all, it committed three straight errors allowing the Blaze Spikers to take a 24-21 lead. Molina then converted on a well-executed combination play to seal the victory.
“I told the team they should not underestimate the opponent,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal Delos Santos. “Our eyes are set on finishing strong and winning the quarterfinals.”
Meanwhile, Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors bucked a slow start before hammering a 25-27, 25-18, 25-17, 26-24 victory over Generika-Ayala Lifesavers to keep its slim playoffs hopes alive.
Ukrainian import Bodhana Anisova unloaded 25 points, including 23 attacks, for the Lady Realtors, which now fashioned a 3-5 win-loss card together with the Lifesavers and the Asset Managers.
“I hope this back-to-back victory is the momentum we’re looking for,” said Lady Realtors head coach Jerry Yee. “We are still hopeful that we will able to gain a seat in the quarterfinals round.”/PN
