BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will build its Southern Visayas District office in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.
Newly designated PCG commander for Southern Visayas District captain Artemio Abu said the construction of the office will mark their intensified operations in Negros Island and Siquijor Island.
The office’s workforces will be from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
Abu said the PCG wants to establish its Southern Visayas District office so that it can monitor sea vessels passing through the Tubataha Reef and to prevent the “spillover” of terrorism from Mindanao.
He added that Negros Island, with its tourist destinations, attracts not only visitors but also terrorists.
That is why the PCG must be proactive in its operations, Abu stressed.
The PCG-Southern Visayas District office will use new ships, weather satellites and radars, among others, for its operations./PN
