ILOILO City – A suspected “down line” of drug lord Richard Prevendido was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Arguelles, Jaro district.
Abelardo Librel Jr. sold to an undercover agent two sachets of suspected shabu weighing 0.6 grams for P3,000, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The 32-year-old “was selling shabu on the streets like a candy,” Regional Director Wardley Getalla said.
PDEA identified Librel as a “barker” – someone who shouts at the top of their voice to call for public utility jeepney passengers – at the Jaro plaza.
After a two-week surveillance, PDEA operatives staged the buy-bust at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon receiving the marked money, Librel tried to escape but was restrained, said Getalla.
“Librel told us some of his buyers worked at night clubs,” said Getalla.
Librel got his drug supply from a certain “Gilbert” in Barangay Desamparados, Jaro. “Gilbert” belonged to the Jablo group, which was under the Prevendido group, PDEA said, citing intelligence information.
“We are conducting further investigation,” Getalla said.
Librel was detained at the PDEA Region 6 custodial facility.
He was facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
