BACOLOD City – There will be tree-replanting activities in Negros Island under the 10 Million Trees in 10 Years for a Greener Negros (10M in 10) Movement of the Energy Development Corp. (EDC).
EDC’s partners will review the areas where they already planted trees, according to Vicente Omandam Jr., senior manager of EDC’s Southern Negros Geothermal Project.
“Take note that our target is to plant, grow and protect the trees. Next year we will not only be planting. We will also be reviewing the planted areas and replant there,” said Omandam.
The 10M in 10 Movement is the biggest forest restoration in Negros Island.
It aims to plant one million trees each year in its 10-year timeframe, but it already planted four million trees in the last two years, said Omandam.
With this, Omandam said, the movement may exceed its target.
EDC had tapped partners for the movement and provided them a project management office. It also provided seedlings of different trees.
