ILOILO City – The man ranked No. 1 in the police’s list of fugitives in Western Visayas has been arrested in Marikina City, Metro Manila yesterday.
Antonio “Anton” Aquino, a murder suspect, was collared around 2 p.m. at BlueWave mall, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
The arrest warrant was served by the combined forces of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), PRO-6’s Regional Intelligence Division, Crime Investigation and Detection Group Manila, and Marikina City police.
Aquino, also a robbery suspect, was charged for the death of Bonifacio Merindad, a government employee, and two others 14 years ago.
A “big accomplishment” was how Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, IPPO director, described Aquino’s arrest.
“Crime does not pay,” he stressed.
The informant who helped the police trace Aquino would be getting a P300,000 reward, under
Memorandum Circulation 2004-11 of the Department of Interior and Local Government, said Tayaba./PN
