MANILA – Kiefer Ravena had a rousing professional debut to lead NLEX Road Warriors to a come-from-behind 119-115 victory over Kia Picanto in the PBA Philippine Cup yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
The Ilonggo rookie posted 18 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds for Road Warriors, which tied defending champion San Miguel Beermen on top with a 1-0 win-loss record.
Michael Miranda and Kevin Alas chipped in 14 points apiece. Alex Mallari contributed 13 markers while Larry Fonacier, Rabeh Al-Hussaini and JR Quinahan had 12 points each for NLEX.
Down by as much as 13 points early in the second quarter, Road Warriors went on a late rally behind triples by Fonacier and Al-Hussaini to trim the deficit 64-68 at the half.
Picanto went on to lead by as much as 10 points twice in the third period but Road Warriors had its answers from Ravena, Miranda and Alas to reduce the lead 90-92 heading into the fourth.
Both teams exchanged leads in the final quarter until the scores tied at 113-all but a huge 4-point play by Fonacier allowed Road Warriors to surge 117-113 with under a minute left in the game.
Picanto trimmed the lead 115-117 on an inside conversion by Jay-R Reyes before muffing the chance to tie the score. Quinahan then drained two free throws to seal the win for Road Warriors.
Eric Camson top-scored with 24 points, including four triples, while Rashawn McCarthy and Jackson Corpuz had 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Picanto, which dropped to 0-1 along with Phoenix Fuel Masters./PN
