ILOILO and Negros football teams scored lopsided victories at the start of the 1st Governor’s Cup Regional Invitational Championships football event on Tuesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Iloilo drew first blood with a 15-0 domination over Capiz behind the hat-trick of Christian Talamor and braces from Konrad Keim Sollorin, Zymone Binas and RJ Pescadera.
The team jumped to a quick 2-0 lead on back-to-back hits by Khent Brian Valenzuela and Archie John Bellgua in the eighth minute. The lead grew to 8-0 at the half on conversions by Talamor and Sollorin.
With Capiz still struggling on the defensive end in the second half, lloilo racked up seven more goals from Pescadera, Rolf John Alminaza, Justin Clavaton, and Joshmar Sornito.
In the second game, Negros Occidental also had a rousing start in the tournament after a 12-0 rout of the Aklan squad.
Joshua Limco fired four goals. Reuben Liansing, Chyle Miraflores and Jonan Lozada contributed two conversions apiece, while Raven Mesina and Ram Treyes had one hit each to lead the way for the Negrenses.
Edwin Caro Laru-an, Iloilo province football director, said that after the elimination games, the four teams will figure in a semifinal match on Dec. 21. The championship game will be on Dec. 22./PN
