MANILA – Genesis “Azukal” Servania of the Philippines got back on the winning track after his first-round stoppage win over Kittiwat Sirichotchayakun of Thailand at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa, Japan.
It was a bounce-back win for the Bacolod City native following his close unanimous-decision loss to Oscar Valdez during their WBO World featherweight fight in September in the United States.
Servania immediately made an impact as he unloaded multiple shots before flooring Sirichotchayakun on Dec. 19. The Bacolodnon continued with the assault until the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
“Kundisyon naman tayo kaya kahit na last minute lang ako na-inform ng promoter ko na may laban ako ay handa ako,” said Servania. “Hopefully magka-chance uli ako sa world title sa mga susunod kong laban.”
With the victory, the 26-year-old Servania – the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific featherweight champion – improved his boxing slate to 30-1-0 (win-loss-draw), including 13 stoppage wins.
Meanwhile, Allan Vallespin fell short in his bid to capture the WBO Oriental lightweight title following a sixth-round stoppage loss to Denys Berinchyk in Ukraine.
Also a Bacolod City native, Vallespin managed to keep in step with Berinchyk but the latter turned aggressive in the fifth round before totally finishing the fight in the sixth with solid blows.
With the defeat, the 23-year-old Vallespin’s boxing record dropped to 11-2-0, with eight knockout wins, while the 29-year-old Berinchyk kept his unbeaten record of 8-0-0./PN
