BACOLOD City – Four persons were killed in four separate vehicular accidents in Negros Occidental over the holiday weekend.
Two accidents happened in Manapla while one each in Binalbagan and Kabankalan City, according to their respective municipal police stations.
On Dec. 23, the 27-year-old Ritchie Layon of Sagay City, Negros Occidental was on his way home driving a Bajaj 100 motorcycle around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla when he crashed against the back of a Nissan 10-wheeler truck, which was driven by the 41-year-old Modesto Castilla of Barangay Alimango, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.
Senior Inspector Julius Ceasar Colado, Manapla police chief, said Layon did not notice that the truck stopped upon reaching the unfinished bridge in the village, resulting to the crash.
The bridge only allows vehicles to pass in one lane, Colado said.
Layon was rushed to the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Clinic in Victorias City, Negros Occidental where he was pronounced “dead on arrival.”
Around 4:45 a.m. the next day, another motorcycle driver encountered an accident on the national road in Barangay Tortosa, Manapla.
He was the 26-year-old resident James Clarito, who was driving a Rusi 125 motorcycle.
Clarito crashed against a parked Isuzu delivery van on the road, police said.
Van driver Miguel Britania III, 60, of Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental said he was out of the van – peeing – when the crash happened.
Clarito fell off the motorcycle and sustained multiple injuries. He was brought to the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Clinic but died along the way.
In Binalbagan, a dump truck driven by the 28-year-old Jake Olano bumped into a Kawasaki Barako 175 tricycle that the 24-year-old Joseph Julaton drove around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 24.
Emilita Batillano, 46, and niece Althea Flores, 8, were on board the tricycle.
Batillano was rushed to a hospital where she expired at 6:24 a.m. on the same day, police said.
Julaton and Flores were injured and currently under treatment.
In Kabankalan City, two motorcycles crash against each other, killing one of the drivers.
Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City police chief, identified the casualty as the 48-year-old Joevic Deviro of Barangay Dahili, Mabinay, Negros Occidental.
Deviro was driving a Rusi 100 motorcycle around 10 a.m. on Sunday when a Kawasaki BR 200 motorcycle driven by Christian George Aguirre, 34, of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City hit him.
Deviro and Aguirre sustained injuries on the different parts of their bodies. They were rushed to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City where Deviro was declared “dead on arrival.”
Aguirre was currently under treatment as of this writing./PN
