ILOILO City – A Barangay Day celebration in Pungtod, Cabatuan, Iloilo turned bloody when a village councilman and a resident attacked each other.
Witnesses said the incident on the evening of Dec. 29 was triggered by a heated argument but the police learned there was already a grudge between Kagawad Jimmy Mota, 49, and Bobby Consumo, 31.
Mota was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for the treatment of his gunshot wound on the head.
Consumo, on the other hand, sustained stab wounds on the left hand and left side of the body. He was rushed to the Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital, also in Cabatuan.
Both were at the Pungtod gym celebrating the Barangay Day when at around 7:55 p.m., Mota directed the person in charge of the sound system to stop the music because their permit was only until 7 p.m., said Senior Inspector Sullen Domingo, Cabatuan police chief.
Consumo, who was enjoying the music, confronted Mota, leading to the heated argument.
Mota then stabbed Consumo, who also pulled out a .357 revolver tucked in his waist and fired at the kagawad, police said.
“The two already had a misunderstanding a long time ago, when Mota reportedly mauled Consumo’s father,” Domingo said, citing investigation./PN
