ILOILO City – A policeman accused his friend of molesting and slashing him with a blade inside a lodging house in Barangay MacArthur, La Paz district.

Police Officer 1 Joemon Ras Cainday himself arrested Edwin Pineda.

But Pineda, a 29-year-old call center agent from Villa Hermosa Subdivision, Barangay Baldoza, La Paz, was facing more trouble – a sachet of suspected shabu was found inserted in his underwear.

Pineda was detained at the La Paz police station. He was facing physical injury and drug possession charges.

In light of the incident, Cainday was relieved from his post at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO). The 32-year-old was now at the ICPO holding center.

“This will prevent him (Cainday) from influencing an ongoing investigation,” said ICPO chief Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas.

Pineda and Cainday were checked in at Room 4 in Anita Lodge when they fought at around 10 p.m. on Jan. 4, initial investigation showed.

Cainday told the police they just finished drinking beer when he lied down the bed. He suddenly felt Pineda removing his pants and touching his private organ.

He pushed Pineda, who then grabbed a blade and slashed him on the chest, Cainday claimed.

A grappling ensued. Cainday eventually disarmed and searched Pineda. That was when he found a small paper box containing a folded aluminum foil and a sachet of suspected shabu inserted in the latter’s underwear, he said.

Pineda, who identifies himself as a gay man, denied the policeman’s claims.

“I don’t own the blade and the drug,” Pineda said, adding that he will file countercharges against the officer.

Cainday and Pineda lived in the same subdivision.

Pineda also claimed Cainday himself wanted to be touched.

Moreover, the call center agent accused Cainday, a married man, of “targeting” him.

“Pineda claimed that Cainday was accusing him of disclosing to his wife an alleged affair with another woman,” La Paz police chief Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay said, citing initial investigation.

Cainday had his wound checked at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao.

Biñas ordered Sumagaysay to investigate Cainday for any administrative liability./PN
