ILOILO City – The Iloilo provincial government will not directly transfer its financial contribution for the Dinagyang Festival to the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI).
Capitol has allotted a P400,000 budget for the 50th edition of the festival.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said they will instead course the money through the city government, which hosts the celebration.
The provincial government allocated a similar amount last year.
Under Commission on Audit rules, the fund cannot be transferred to the IDFI without the approval of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, said Defensor.
“Sang una ginadiretso man lang namon ang amon amot sa [IDFI] pero nag-istrikto ang Commission on Audit,” the governor said.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III was aware of the difficulty of transferring the fund, Defensor said.
With Iloilo province a cosponsor of the Dinagyang, handing the money to the city government – a transaction between two local governments – would be more convenient, he said.
