MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte remains to be the most approved and trusted government official in the Philippines, the latest Pulse Asia survey showed.
Duterte had an approval rating of 80 percent and a trust rating of 82 percent, according to the “Ulat ng Bayan” survey that Pulse Asia conducted from Dec. 10 to 15 and 17 last year.
Malacañang welcomed the latest survey results.
“This number shows that our people are aware of and recognize the significant strides” Duterte has undertaken so far in his term, said Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.
Roque assured that the chief executive will continue discharging his duties consistent with national interests.
“We call on everyone to put this appreciation into action by standing as one and helping the government as we continue to address poverty, illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption,” he said.
Duterte’s latest ratings did not stray far from his September 2017 approval and trust ratings – both 80 percent.
Meanwhile, Vice President Leni Robredo got an approval rating of 59 percent and a trust rating of 58 percent, the December 2017 survey showed.
Her latest approval rating percentage was up 2 percent from her September 2017’s 57 percent.
An earlier survey by Pulse Asia put Duterte as having higher average trust and approval ratings than former presidents Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III.
While Duterte had majority approval ratings and trust figures across all geographic locations, Mindanao had the highest evaluation of Duterte. Respondents there gave him a 93 percent approval score and 94 percent trust rating.
Duterte’s approval and trust ratings are also evenly spread across socioeconomic classes – 77 percent (Class ABC), 79 percent (Class D) and 85 percent (Class E) for approval ratings, and 78 percent (Class ABC), 80 percent (Class D) and 85 percent (Class E) for trust scores. (With GMA News/PN)
