ILOILO City – An Iloilo City District Jail inmate with suspected links to a “shabu bodega” in Arevalo district faces another charge.
The case would be for “conspiring to sell illegal drugs”, according to Superintendent Vicente Papelera, jail warden.
A mobile phone seized from two 17-year-old drug pushing suspects caught at the so-called “shabu bodega” in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo on Saturday contained text messages traced to inmate Werjun Tañate.
The text messages indicated shabu transactions, according to the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Police Regional Office 6 that arrested the teenagers.
“We have consulted with a lawyer already. May evidences ang mga pulis sang iya text messages sa mga nadakpan,” said Papelera
Tañate was arrested in June 2017 for illegal drugs and detained at the Iloilo City District Jail in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district.
A white mobile phone was recovered from him during an inspection that Papelera ordered after learning from the RDEU about the phone seized from the two arrested minor suspects.
“I don’t tolerate inmates’ illegal activities,” said Papelera.
He ordered an investigation and the isolation of Tañate.
