ILOILO City – Hotels in this city have no rooms left for more guests wanting to witness the Dinagyang Festival this Saturday and Sunday, according to the Iloilo Business Club (IBC).
“We have been checking. Some visitors sought our help,” said IBC executive director Lea Lara, also a member of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI).
The city has around 3,200 hotels rooms, with each accommodating a varying number of guests – from two to five persons, said Lara.
IBC expects between 1.5 million and 1.8 million Dinagyang visitors.
To address the room shortage, Lara said IBC is encouraging visitors to stay with relatives in this city.
IBC is also recommending inns, lodges and pension houses accredited by the Department of Tourism.
Dinagyang is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
“We are ready to welcome guests. Our police are also ready to ensure the peace and order situation of our city,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Citing “sold-out tickets”, he said foreign and domestic tourists “are eager to witness our grand celebration.”
The highlights of the festival are the Kasadyahan regional festival contest tomorrow and the ati-ati tribes competition on Sunday.
The tickets were all sold out in just one week, said John Michael Ng, ticket in-charge of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc.
Another activity seen to attract tourists this year is the pioneering “Parade of Lights” – a showcase of floats mounted on motorized vehicles on Jan. 27 from 7 p.m. until midnight. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency and Iloilo City PIO/PN)
