BACOLOD City – Motorcycle rider Ricky “Dondon” Bacay tried to evade a police checkpoint in Sitio Palanas, Barangay Rizal, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
It turned out the 23-year-old resident of Barangay Dian-ay, Escalante City was in possession of suspected shabu.
Sagay City police officers arrested Bacay at around 1:40 a.m. on Thursday after a “hot pursuit.”
Officers went after and cornered Bacay, who was driving a speeding motorcycle that they believed was trying to avoid the checkpoint, said Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto.
Bacay was “visibly intoxicated” and not wearing a protective helmet. He also failed to present his driver’s license and vehicle documents, prompting the officers to search him, Mansueto said.
That was when the police found three plastic packs of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P1,000.
The officers also seized from Bacay P19,420 cash, a Syrian pound bill, four 1,000 Lebanese pound bills, a black wallet, a cellphone, and his Kawasaki motorcycle.
Mansueto said they were trying to determine if Bacay was connected with Christian Unabia, the motorcycle driver arrested in San Carlos City in possession on P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu./PN
