CERES Negros FC will be without a head coach when it opens its title defense in the 2018 Philippines Football League in March.
The PFL slapped Serbian mentor Risto Vidakovic with a six-month suspension for arguing with game officials during a match in October last year.
“Most likely he will be out in some of our 2018 PFL matches,” Ceres Negros team manager James Dinsay told Panay News.
“We tried to appeal the suspension before the PFL, but they stood firm with their verdict,” said Dinsay.
Aside from his frequent ejection from matches, Vidakovic – a 48-year-old retired Serbian national football team player – was also critical of game officials during post-match interviews.
Assistant coach Ian Treyes will temporarily assume coaching duties in lieu of Vidakovic, Dinsay said.
“Our team is ready to face any opponent,” said the team manager. “Everything we do in the training comes out during the game. Even without the coach on the bench, everyone is prepared.”
Vidakovic may still coach the Negros Occidental-based club in the ongoing 2018 AFC Champions League./PN
