HUA SIONG College of Iloilo, CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, Sun Yat Sen High School, and University of San Agustin continued to pace their respective groups in the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Iloilo leg qualifier.
Hua Siong rode on the hot hands of Mark Nonoy, Binoy Beliran and Reynold Tupas to score 85-52 over Mandurriao National High School on Tuesday at the Powerhouse Gym in Gaisano City Iloilo.
“I like what I am seeing from my players so far but it is still a long way to go. May tougher opponents pa kaming makakatapat so we will just keep on working hard,” said Hua Siong head coach Vincent Conlu, whose team goes 2-0 in Group B.
Silver Knights, meanwhile, turned to Patrick John Gain and Lester Valn Paraico to beat Ateneo de Iloilo 81-45 and tally its second straight win in as many games in Group D.
Sun Yat Sen High School, on the other hand, improved to 3-0 in Group C after defeating Central Philippine University 99-64 while University of San Agustin goes 2-0 in Group A as it overcame John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University 70-49.
Iloilo National High School (1-1), meanwhile, recovered from its opening-day defeat with a close 67-61 win over Ateneo de Iloilo to stay on second place in Group D.
Action resumes today starting 10 a.m. with the following games: Silver Knights vs. Iloilo National High, Santa Clarita International High School Primes vs. Filipino American School Town, Assumption Passi vs. JBLFMU, and CPU vs PAREF Westbridge.
Tournament commissioner Joe-An Tenorio said the champion will represent Iloilo in the NBTC Regional Tournament on Feb. 23 to 24 in Guimaras./PN
