BACOLOD City – The SangguniangPanlungsod (SP) is urging all cinemas in the city to support the fundraising of the Philippine Red Cross by imposing an additional P1 for every movie ticket they sell.
The accumulated amount from the additional P1 fee must then be remitted to the Red Cross.
Councilor Caesar Distrito said the SP passed a resolution supporting Red Cross’ fundraising on Jan. 31.
The resolution was passed in response to a letter that the Philippine Red Cross in Bacolod City sent.
The letter dated Jan. 23 was addressed to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and signed by Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental officer-in-charge Rita Benita Mirasol and Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental Board of Directors (BOD) chairman Carlos Ganihong.
The letter stated that the Red Cross was once again requesting support from the city government in gathering funds.
Red Cross’ letter also stated that, “The proceeds from cinema collections enable them to preposition goods, capable staff and volunteers in responding to various safety deployments, emergencies and disasters in the city.”
Distrito, a member of the Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental BOD, said this is the second time that the SP approved a resolution in relation to Red Cross’ request.
The first one was passed on May 9, 2012.
The resolution was in time for the expiration of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental and the cinema managements in the city.
The MOA expired in December last year.
Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental also stated in its letter that only SM Cinema out of three cinemas in the city remitted the accumulated amount of the additional movie ticket fee they collected./PN
