ILOILO City – One of the two suspects in the robbery of a pasalubong center on Saturday has been arrested in Barangay Edganzon, City Proper.
Twenty-seven-year-old Edmund Mendoza of Barangay Baldoza, La Paz district was detained at the lockup cell of Police Station 1.
The robbery at Merci Pasalubong Center was carried out around 3:25 a.m. on Jan. 3.
Mendoza and another suspect, Herbert Soquiña, 31, managed to remove the store’s vault and tried to spirit it out but the security guard of the building where the store was located spotted them.
They dropped the vault and ran away, according to security guard Benigno Calvo.
Calvo alerted the police and a manhunt was launched.
While Mendoza was arrested, Soquiña, a resident of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, managed to elude the cops, according to Senior Inspector Val Ladublan, Police Station 1 chief.
The vault contained P15,000.
Ladublan said the two men were also suspected drug personalities.
As of this writing, Soquiña’s whereabouts were unknown./PN
