ILOILO City – Crime volume in this city significantly dropped by 70.23 percent during the first week of February compared to the same period last year.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) recorded only 25 crime incidents from Feb. 2 to 8, 2018 while there were 84 incidents from Feb. 3 to 9, 2017.
“The ICPO also attributed the decrease in crime volume to various city ordinances such as curfew for minors and Executive Order 146 directing the mandatory closure at 2 a.m. of all bars, nightclubs, disco bars, resto bars and other similar establishments,” said ICPO operations chief Superintendent Jowel Saliba.
There was a decline in index crimes to only 11 from 38 or a variance of 71.05 percent.
Index crimes are crimes against persons and properties such as murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, carjacking and cattle rustling.
ICPO recorded only four physical injury cases (from 22 in February last year) and six theft cases (from 15). There were no records of murder, homicide, rape, carjacking and cattle rustling.
Only 14 non-index crimes from 46 cases recorded in February 2017.
Non-index crimes are violations of special laws such as against illegal gambling, illegal drugs and loose firearms.
Saliba said the augmentation of 578 police personnel from the Police Regional Office 6 has helped in maintaining the peace and order in the metropolis.
ICPO conducted two buy-bust operations which resulted to the arrest of five persons and confiscation of 20 sachets of shabu.
