MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers made a quick work of University of the East Lady Warriors 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball Wednesday night at the San Juan Arena.
In the opening match, Ateneo Lady Eagles finally survived a five-setter match as it extended its winning run to three with a 25-18, 14-25, 25-18, 15-25, 15-10 victory over Adamson University Lady Falcons.
Mary Joy Baron and Desiree Cheng led Lady Spikers with 13 points apiece while Ilongga Aduke Ogunsaya chipped in 12 markers for the two-time defending champion (4-1).
It may be a huge win – which allowed Lady Spikers to recover from its defeat to National University Lady Bulldogs last Sunday – La Salle’s performance against Lady Warriors was filled with errors.
“Patapos na (ang game), magtatapon ng serve, hindi dapat mangyayari iyon,” Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus said. “Hindi mo makita iyong aggressiveness inside the court. Iyong polishing, medyo hindi ko makita.”
In the earlier match, despite dragging Lady Falcons to a decider, Lady Eagles displayed its poise with its reception and blocking as it continued its rise to a 0-2 start – all being five setters.
Jhoanna Maragunot had 15 hits and eight digs, Madeleine Madayag had four blocks and three service aces to finish with 14 points, while last season’s top rookie Jules Samonte also scored 14 points, including three blocks for Lady Eagles./PN
