WESTERN Visayas dominated pencak silat in the 2018 National SCUAA Meet in San Jose, Antique.
Region 6 claimed the overall titles in the men’s category, with three golds, two silvers and a bronze, and the women’s, with seven golds, a silver and a bronze on Wednesday.
Iloilo City native Edmar Tacuel bagged three gold medals in tungal, men’s tanding (Class C) and ganda, where he teamed up with fellow Ilonggo Kimpee Guaza.
Tacuel, Guaza and Jomar Cotamayor won a silver medal in regu while Renier Sanchez got one in tanding men’s (Class G). Guaza contributed the lone bronze medal in tanding men’s (Class A).
Jeremae Beato of La Paz, Iloilo City took home four gold medals on the distaff side – tungal, ganda (with Mitz Jalandoni), regu (with Jalandoni and Elera Mae Gabatian), and tanding (Class C).
Also winning gold medals were Stelen Gajeto in tanding (Class A), Ragelyn Ibutnante in Class G and Luzenerie Largo in Class H. Charina Victorioso had silver in Class F while Mary Joy Dolor won bronze in Class D.
In athletics, Shiela Mae Tacay of Tigbauan, Iloilo captured a gold medal in women’s high jump before settling for a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump.
Also winning bronze medals were Joey Lorenz dela Cruz in men’s 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, Jean Pinuela in women’s 10k, and Reymund Abedo in men’s 4x100m relay./PN
