ILOILO City – Two farmers were shot and hacked in Barangay Indag-an, Miag-ao, Iloilo. There were three suspects – a man and his two sons.
Police said land dispute sparked the Sunday night killings of Rene Morante, 36, of Barangay Igbita, Miag-ao and Fortunato Cabigonda, 36, of San Remigio, Antique.
The suspects were Winsor Fabillo, 50, and sons Marvin, 28, and Bryan, 25, all of Barangay Indag-an.
According Chief Inspector Norlan Perante, Miag-ao police chief, the crime was carried out around 11:50 p.m. as the victims were getting ready to sleep.
Morante’s live-in partner who was seven-month pregnant, Riza Esplanda, was able to run away from their house, said Perante.
“The attack was likely planned. The suspects were heavily armed with guns and a bolo while their victims were unarmed and helpless,” he added.
The three suspects were subsequently arrested. Cops seized from them two shotguns, a .45 pistol, a .22 revolver, a .38 revolver, and a bolo.
The suspects were detained at the Miag-ao police station. They face charges for murder and illegal possession of guns./PN
