UNIVERSITY of Negros Occidental-Recoletos/Red House Taiwan Shabu-Shabu and Supreme ABF/Silvergraces Construction kept their unbeaten slate in the Negros Basketball Association 2018 President’s Cup at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
UNO-R claimed its third victory in as many matches on Monday evening even with the absence of import Landry Sanjo after a 75-64 victory over Duke Jay Game Farm.
UNO-R held to a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but survived a tight exchange with Duke Jay in the second as it surged to a 37-33 halftime lead on hits by Marvin Sanico and Ritcher Santillan.
Sanico sizzled for 12 points in the second period alongside Ritcher Santillan’s 6 points to extend UNO-R’s edge 37-33 at the break as Carlo dela Torre and John Mathew Benieves delivered 6 points apiece for Duke.
UNO-R pulled away in the third behind Santillan and Kevin Villafranca for a 56-47 lead. Duke Jay tried to make a run in the fourth but UNO-R came up with timely shots to seal the win.
Santillan led UNO-R/Red House’s well-balanced offense with 18 points. Sanico chipped in 14 markers while Aljohn Catague and Villafranca had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Meanwhile Supreme ABF turned to Bill Geolingo’s huge shots in the fourth quarter to score 92-77 over Melfern team.
Geolingo top-scored with 15 points – 8 in the final quarter – while Errol Doromal and Cameroonian import Frederick Ngoh Elombi dominated in inside points with 13 and 12, respectively, for Supreme ABF./PN
