BACOLOD City – Two holdup suspects were not as lucky as another when police officers ran after them in Barangay Cabacugan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

The 27-year-old Edgar Ricaña of General Santos City, South Cotabato and the 30-year-old Jay-R Sta. Ana of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental were killed, a police report showed.

The 26-year-old Garnel Solibaga of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, on the other hand, was injured.

Solibaga was currently confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for treatment.

Ricaña, Sta. Ana and Solibaga robbed a store in the village around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, taking away cash worth P190,188.

The store is owned by Antonio Mabus, Police Officer 3 Erwin Bello and Police Officer 1 Rejan Rondubio.

At the time, Jade Marketing driver Raul De Loyola, 45, was delivering feeds to the store.

When Ricaña, Sta. Ana and Solibaga fled on board their motorcycles, Loyola alerted the police.

Police officers, also on board motorcycles, waylaid the suspects, who then fired at them. The police officers fired back.

A .45-caliber gun and a .357 pistol were recovered from the suspects, police said.

It was learned that the suspects were the same persons responsible for stealing P100,00 cash in Moises Padilla last week, according to La Castellana police head Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon./PN
