ILOILO City – A 34-year-old native of Cabatuan, Iloilo has been found dead in a septic tank in South Korea, a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) official said.
Angelo Camen Claveria may have been murdered via a blow to the head, DFA Consular Office-Iloilo officer-in-charge Anita F. Saldo told Panay News, citing initial investigation.
Saldo clarified that their office has yet to receive an official report from the South Korean government.
Claveria, a factory worker in South Korea, has been reportedly missing since 2016 but it was only this February that his family sought help.
The body was found in a septic tank in Hwaseong city in Gyeonggi province in April, the DFA said. The agency has yet to know the exact date.
On April 20 representatives from the Korean consulate in Cebu went to the DFA Consular Office-Iloilo to perform DNA testing on Claveria’s mother Angelita, said Saldo.
On Monday the police attaché of the Korean consulate informed the Claveria family that Angelita’s DNA matched with that of the man found dead in South Korea, Saldo said.
This prompted Angelita, along with her three daughters, to head back to the DFA Consular Office-Iloilo on Tuesday./PN
