FOUR teams, including three collegiate squads, are set to clash in the Iloilo Governor’s Cup National Invitational Basketball Championships that starts Thursday.
The collegiate teams in the four-day tournament are Manila-based – Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, Mapua University Cardinals and Centro Escolar University Scorpions. The other team is Sky Cable-Iloilo.
Set to face off today are Knights and Cardinals at 3 p.m. and Scorpions and Sky Cable at 7:30 p.m. at covered gym in Mina, Iloilo. On Friday, Scorpions battles Cardinals at 3 p.m. and Sky Cable faces Knight at 5:30 p.m. at the Passi City covered gym.
Ilonggo John Paul Calvo will lead the Jeff Napa-mentored Knights along with fellow veterans Kier Quinto, Jerrick Balanza, Geo Ambohot, Larry Muyang, Edson Batiller, Fran Yu, Christian Fajarito, Christian Balagasay, and Jeremaiah Taladua.
Sky Cable-Iloilo has yet to submit its lineup as of Wednesday morning but team owner Tito Lopez hinted that it will be composed of former PBA players.
Cardinals under head coach Atoy Co will have Exequiel Biteng, Denniel Aguirre, Christian Buñag, Jesper Bautista, Justin Serrano, Noah Lugo, Warren Bonifacio, Jasper Salenga, Erick Jabel, Herson Pajarillo, Cedric Pelayo, and Laurence Victoria.
Scorpions, which replaced Lyceum Pirates, will be led by Orlan Wamar, Keanu and Kobe Caballero, Paul Galinato, Ebuka Umeanozie, Gilles Oloume Guiole, Rich Guinitaran, Christian Uri, Pierce Chan, John Rojas, Mark Cruz, and Jan Formento.
On Saturday, Scorpions will face Knights at 3 p.m. while Cardinals tangle with Sky Cable at the Pototan Astrodome.
The top two finishers will face in a championship game at 5:30 p.m. on May 20 while the third and fourth will fight for the bronze at 3 p.m. at the Pototan Astrodome./PN
