ELEVEN teams are set to compete in the second season of Bingawan Foundation Cup – National Preseason High School Basketball Premier Tournament from June 1 to 21 at the Civic Center of Bingawan, Iloilo.
Defending champion Santa Clarita International School Primes and last year’s first runner-up CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, which recently placed second in the SMART Breakdown Basketball National in Manila, are among the contenders.
Also participating are Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet champion Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix and NBTC Regional champion Hercor College Junior Jaguars.
Other Iloilo-based participating squads are host Bingawan National High School, St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets, University of San Agustin Golden Eagles, Assumption School – Passi City, and Ateneo de Iloilo Blue Dragons.
Teams from outside Iloilo are Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and Davao Chinese League champion Philippine Academy of Sakya – Davao Red Dragons.
All the teams will be divided into two brackets, with one group having five teams and the other having six.
The top teams per bracket will move to the semifinals while second and third placers will face in the crossover quarterfinals, in the single round-robin event.
“We decided to do the Bingawan Foundation Cup again this year after the success of the first season last year,” said Mark Plagata Palabrica. “The tournament aims to give exposure to high school players through competitive basketball.”/PN
