BACOLOD City – The mass oath-taking ceremony of newly elected barangay officials at the SMX Convention Center in this capital city was “well-represented,” according to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.
Familiaran said all 61 village chiefs in Bacolod attended Saturday’s oath-taking, which was initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Records from event organizers showed that 407 of 488 barangay councilmen in the city joined the oath-taking.
Familiaran said the others who were absent may have been sick or may have “prior commitments.”
The vice mayor said attendance to the event is a way of showing “cooperation and unity for the good of the city,” especially since it was directed under a memorandum that DILG city director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag issued on June 6.
Presidential Assistant on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino led the oath-taking.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia, for his part, appealed to the newly elected officials to sustain the “rapid growth” of Bacolod.
“To make the growth of Bacolod comprehensive and complete we would like to appeal for all the support, cooperation and participation of our barangay officials,” Leonardia said./PN
