
MANILA – Stanley Pringle waxed hot for a career-best 50 points as GlobalPort Batang Pier cruised to a 133-115 victory over Columbian Dyip in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The former PBA Rookie of the Year awardee was scorching hot the entire game. He converted nine triples to become the first local player to score 50-plus points since Asi Taulava dropped 51 in Talk N Text’s 131-105 win over Purefoods in 2004.
Import Malcolm White added double-double 28 points and 14 rebounds while Jonathan Grey and Sean Anthony had 16 and 12 points, respectively, for the Batang Pier.
With the win, GlobalPort moved up to 5-5.
The Batang Pier were trailing 25-29 at the end of one when they went on a huge run behind Pringle, Grey and Anthony to take a 40-36 lead. Pringle then dropped three straight triples to surge to a 66-56 halftime lead.
The Dyip tried to rally back in the third period and was able to come to as close as 83-87 but the Batang Pier pulled away anew with five straight points from Pringle for a 96-88 lead.
Batang Pier continued to widen the lead in the fourth as back-to-back treys from Pringle pushes the lead to 116-100. It even went up to its highest at 133-112 on the 50th point of Pringle.
Jeth Troy Rosario and Jason Castro anchored TNT KaTropa’s second half scoring run to score a 91-85 victory over sister team Meralco Bolts and snapped its two-game losing run.
After losing a double-digit lead in the first half, Rosario and Castro waxed hot on the offensive end in the third period for the KaTropa to build its largest lead of the game at 84-69 on a triple by Jericho Cruz.
The Bolts made its last push to come to as close as eight points at 79-87with over a minute left but conversions from Rosario and Terrence Romeo sealed the victory for the KaTropa.
Rosario led the way with double-double 30 points and 12 rebounds, while Castro and Cruz added 20 and 11 points, respectively, for the KaTropa, which tied the Bolts with 7-3 win-loss slate.
