ILOILO City – A wayward passenger jeepney hit a tree in Barangay Igtubli, Tubungan, Iloilo. Two passengers died while one was injured.
The accident happened at around 5 a.m. yesterday.
The jeepney, driven by 27-year-old Jay Ar España, was bound for Barangay Centro, Tubungan, said Inspector Henry Mar Madriñan, municipal police chief.
The casualties were Angelina Talaman, 70, and Vilma Macote, 30, both of Barangay Igtubli.
The injured passenger was 30-year-old Jinky Caro, also a resident of the same barangay. She was taken to the district hospital in Guimbal town.
According to Madriñan, España lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a steep portion of the road.
The driver admitted he was driving fast, added the police chief.
España was detained at the Tubungan police station. He faces a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide and frustrated homicide, said Madriñan./PN
