BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental vice governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson won’t issue any statement regarding the investigation into the controversial animal hub project in the city.
Lacson said he will wait for Gov. Alfredo Marañon to return from his vacation to disclose the development of the investigation. The governor will be back this Friday.
The P4-million animal hub includes an auction area, animal pens, a training center, a laboratory for research and development, and a demonstration room. It aims to offer lower auction service fees to animal raisers in the province.
It was built at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan and was 80-percent complete before its construction was ordered stop in April.
Marañon at that time said he was “clueless” about the animal hub’s construction. He added that no bidding was conducted for the project.
He also said he has no idea who authorized the hub’s construction.
After issuing the stoppage order, Marañon called for an investigation. A special committee was made.
Two months into the probe, Provincial Agriculture Office head Atty. Japhet Masculino – who chairs the special committee – said they already have results.
Lacson said Masculino already briefed him about the “facts uncovered by their investigation including the recommendations.”
“I will let the governor mention the results of the investigation. What is clear now is that the investigation committee has done its work and made recommendations,” added Lacson./PN
