ILOILO City – Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with secretary Roy Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), DPWH-6 officials, inspected the ongoing rehabilitation along Boracay Circumferential Road and other major roads in the island on Friday, July 27.
Villar conducted an ocular inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay Circumferential Road in Bulabog area, particularly the construction of missing gap, to ensure its completion in time for the re-opening of this world famous island in October this year.
Villar also checked the construction of the main road, from Brgy. Manoc-Manoc to Brgy. Yapak that will complete the whole stretch of the Boracay Circumferential Road, as well as the on-going removal of obstructions such as illegal structures and electric posts along the 12-meter road-right-of-way.
According to DPWH-6 assistant regional director Jose Al V, Fruto, this missing gap includes construction of 2-lane, 6-meter wide carriageway including curb and gutter, and sidewalk with pavers and streetlights, in the amount of P50.0 million.
“The project also includes the construction of drainage with the length 204-lineal meters of reinforced concrete pipe culvert (RCPC) with five catch basins, cross drain and cut-off wall for the installation of curb and gutter,” Fruto said.
Boracay Circumferential Road serves as the island’s main road network, thus, with this rehabilitation effort and completion of missing gap, travel around the island would be easier and more accessible particularly going to Mt. Luho and the famous Puka Beach.
Once the missing gap of the Boracay Circumferential Road is completed, this will serve as alternative route, providing access within the island when main roads are closed for rehabilitation.
Meantime, the DPWH Regional Office, along with various District Engineering Offices in the region, have deployed maintenance crew to extend assistance for the demolition/clearing of road-right-of-way including removal of obstructions to pave way for the widening of Boracay Circumferential Road, which covers initially the length of 5.26 kilometers.
“We are currently removing an approximately 240 illegal structures from Cagban Port to Mt. Luho and 30 electric posts from Cagban Port to Elizalde compound,” Fruto said./PN
