KALIBO, Aklan – The number of dengue cases in Aklan has increased 29 percent, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The increase covers the period January to July 22 this year when 696 cases of the mosquito-borne disease were recorded.
This is higher compared to the 536 cases recorded in the province in the same period last year, the PHO said.
Most of the dengue patients were aged between 11 and 20 years old, having a total of 245 cases.
This capital town has registered the highest incidence of dengue with 156, PHO records showed.
Batan followed with 63 and Altavas with 55. Other towns have less than 50 dengue cases.
Of the total number of the dengue cases, two led to death.
The PHO warned the public of the symptoms of the disease – fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, dizziness, vomiting, and swelling of the muscle, no appetite, and skin rashes.
If someone shows these symptoms, he or she must immediately seek medical attention to prevent the condition develop into severe dengue. (With a report from PIA/PN)
