A LITTLE over a week ago, US President Donald Trump tweeted about the farm murders and farm expropriations going in the diverse country of South Africa. The tweet was a contentious one because it implies that the black dominated government of South Africa is oppressing its white minority.
This may sound a little extreme or unlikely but various black South African leaders, including Nelson Mandela, have made statements in both the distant and recent past that either explicitly or implicitly called for the killing of white South Africans or “boers” as they call themselves. One good example comes from leading left-wing opposition leader Julius Malema who said during a rally that, “We are cutting the throat of whiteness.”
What’s going in South Africa now has a great symbolic significance for the rest of the entire world, because it is a reversal of the traditional anti-colonial mythos, where White/European man oppresses the Non-White man. In 2018 South Africa, the reverse is becoming true in South Africa.
There are stories of black South Africans killing and torturing white South Africans in the most gruesome ways. I don’t know how many of these stories are true, but white South Africans seem to be leaving the country in droves, and don’t seem to have any intention of returning.
This is not the behavior of safe, happy and prosperous people.
An article written by Zinhle Mapumulo and Johan Eybers in 2017 entitled “We’re running out of Whites” stated: “About half a million white South Africans have left the country in the past three decades, and Stats SA estimates that a further 112 740 will emigrate in the next five years”
Hmmm.
Now amidst all the alarming news, it’s worth mentioning that White people have a disproportionate control over the wealth in most of South Africa, including most of the farms that the government wants to confiscate. However, wealth means little if the state and the majority ethnic group are against you, and this is what seems to be happening in South Africa.
The ruling ANC party is being pressured by their more left leaning opponents to redistribute land and wealth, forcing the ruling party to take a more radical stance to stay in power. So far the bill that would have led to land confiscation has been withdrawn for review, but if popular opinion continues down this route then I don’t expect white South Africans to have much of a future in South Africa.
When South Africa ended Apartheid (For those who are not familiar, “Apartheid” is or was a term to describe a policy that separated black people from white people along with their institutions and infrastructure. Many powerful countries found this policy evil and pressured South Africa to end it), many people believed that the country will eventually become a “rainbow nation,” a country where blacks and whites could live together in harmony.
