MANILA – Stallion Laguna FC continued its strong start in the 2019 Philippines Football League after a 5-1 domination over the Global Makati FC at the Binan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.
Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza, Mouhamed Sy, Darwin Regala, Nathaniel Alquiros and Fitch Arboleda scored a goal each for Stallion Laguna, which stayed at second place in the standings with 11 points after six games.
Following Global Makati’s early misses, the Stallion Laguna gained the early advantage in the game as Sy scored on a header from a wonderful curling cross from Nicolas Ferrer in the 13th minute.
Global Makati answered in style in the 42nd minute when Kouichi Belgira scored from a direct free kick just outside the box but Stallion Laguna was able to seize the advantage just before the break courtesy of Regala hit.
Stallion Laguna continued to dominate their foe in the second half with Melliza scoring his first goal of the season at the 55th minute followed by Alquiros’ drive from the right wing for a 4-1 edge.
Even though the visitors’ tanks were running low, they were able to give Stallion Laguna a scare several times, but goal keeper Patrick Deyto remained firm at his post. The hosts then sealed the game with Arboleda slotting from inside.
“We trained a certain way, the players played a certain way, but they were able to adjust in the second half. And when they adjusted and understood how the game was supposed to be played, then we produced more goals,” said Stallion Laguna head coach Ernest Nierras./PN
