MANILA – Bacolod City’s Fille Cainglet-Cayetano showed her vintage form as Creamline Cool Smashers cruised to a 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 sweep of the Chef’s Classic Lady Red Spikers in the PVL Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.
Taking the place of injured Alyssa Valdez on Saturday, Cainglet-Cayetano spearheaded the offense for the defending champions with nine points and proper her team to a 9-0 win-loss slate.
Valdez is out at least for a week after sustaining a right ankle injury in practice on Thursday and has also withdrawn from the Philippine women’s volleyball team’s participation in a tournament in Thailand.
“Happy naman kami na ‘yung hardwork namin sa training, ‘yung mga patayan namin with coach Tai (Bundit) nag-payoff naman,” said Cool Smashers libero Julia Morado. “Syempre every win we get is an advantage going into the semifinals.”
Michele Gumabao and Jessica Galanza had eight points apiece. Risa Sato added seven markers while Morado made 28 excellent sets in her last match with Creamline before leaving to join the Philippine women’s team in Thailand.
Meanwhile, Aklanon Dell Palomata continued her fine form as the Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers pulled off a stunning 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 sweep over PacificTown-Army Lady Troopers.
Palomata tallied 20 points, on 17 attacks and three blocks while veteran setter Wendy Semana showed her prowess with 30 excellent sets as the Lady Jet Spikers improved to 3-5 slate./PN
